The IDEA Public Schools Headquarters project is located in Weslaco, Texas, centrally located in the Rio Grande Valley. IDEA is a non-profit charter college preparatory school company that has grown tremendously since its inception in 2004. The new headquarters facility will house up to 200 full time employees, and has training facilities to serve up to 150 people at once. A central courtyard space will provide protection from the harsh sun and continuous winds of the region through strategically located native planting zones. A Moorish irrigation system will be incorporated into this space to provide drainage during storm events and nourishment for the plants. The 8-acre site aims to be a model of sustainability and ecological restoration for the Rio Grande Valley. All site irrigation will be provided by collected air conditioning condensate and rainwater. A series of cisterns combined with an amenity retention pond will store the water.
