The Cistercian Abbey and Preparatory School are located among the rolling hills of Irving, Texas, on a very unique campus. The current 70 acres have been guarded and secured over the years by a very diligent group of alumni to ensure that the Cistercian community will have an enduring legacy of a most valuable commodity in our ever changing urban world - land. Outdoor open spaces in key locations have been created on campus to encourage impromptu and planned gatherings, ceremonies and places of contemplation. One such location is at the entry to the Abbey’s Chapel. Elements of art, built-in furnishings, and thoughtful hardscape and landscape zones help to establish this outdoor space as a new hub of activity for the Cistercian community – particularly preceding and following services in the Chapel.
