A central courtyard serves as the heart of this sustainable campus and features concrete seat wall planters, a condensate-fed fountain, and Moorish-inspired canals that carry drainage asirrigation through the space to the site’s native Tamaulipan Thornscrub beyond.

Merit Award

A contemporary residence and its series of garden rooms are wedged between traditional homes on California’s Coronado Island to provide privacy from the street and open views to interior courtyard and roof terrace spaces.

With a natural topography evoking native Blackland Prairie of North Texas, Sylvan Thirty’s terraced and sloping site encourages pedestrian activity at the central green, the shaded pedestrian spine, and along the perimeter streets.
